| Hofmann
studied in Karlsruhe, München and München, later went to Paris
and was influenced profoundly by the French art of that time,
which was seen as scandalous by many. He was
appointed as a professor in Weimar in 1903. Showing man and nature
in harmonious unity against the backdrop of arcadian landscapes seems to be his leitmotif.
In retrospect, the visionary character of his works become
clearer, since he preceeded the later movement towards simplicity,
truth and clarity of forms. (For more information see Ludwig-von-Hofmann-Archiv.) |
